COLORADO SPRNGS, Colo. (Feb. 6, 2006) - The Mountain West Conference Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC) is in the midst of its first annual Rebuilding Lives Blood Drive Challenge. The blood drive challenge was developed by the league's Student-Athlete Advisory Committee as a community service project that would focus on the importance of donating blood.
Each Mountain West Conference institution will designate one day during January or February to conduct a campus-wide blood drive. The MWC will determine a winner and an MWC Representative/Conference SAAC representative will present the award to the Athletic Director of the winning school during 2006 MWC Men's and Women's Basketball Championship at the Pepsi Center in Denver, Colo., March 7-11. The winner will be the institution that has collected the most pints of blood (i.e., productive units) on its specified day with the assistance of local blood service centers. Each institution will promote the event on campus and encourages student groups, faculty, staff and alumni to participate and support their school.
