MWC Men's Basketball Co-Players of the Week Utah's Andrew Bogut and Wyoming's Justin Williams honored
Jan. 24, 2005 COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. - Utah center Andrew Bogut and Wyoming forward Justin Williams were named Mountain West Conference Men's Basketball Co-Players of the Week. Bogut garnered his fourth award this season and fifth for his career, while Williams earned his first career weekly honor. A 7-0 sophomore from Melbourne, Australia, Bogut led the first-place Utes to a 2-0 record last week with conference wins over Colorado State and New Mexico. He scored 25 points and grabbed 18 rebounds in the win over the Rams. Bogut tallied 24 points and grabbed a career-high 20 rebounds vs. the Lobos, hitting 11-of-14 field goals, as well as blocking three shots. His 20-20 effort against New Mexico was one of only six in the nation this season and the second in MWC history. Williams, a 6-10 junior from Chicago, Ill., paced the Cowboys to league wins over BYU and San Diego State last week, posting back-to-back career scoring efforts in the process. He scored a then-career best 19 points, on 8-of-9 shooting, and added seven rebounds and four blocked shots vs. BYU. In Wyoming's overtime win over San Diego State, Williams scored a career-high 22 points (7-of-8 from the field), grabbed a career-high 11 rebounds and blocked six shots. He was also 8-for-10 from the free throw line vs. the Aztecs, including 4-for-4 in the overtime period. For the week, Bogut averaged 24.5 points, 19 rebounds and two blocked shots, while shooting 60 percent from the field (21-for-35). He leads the MWC in scoring and rebounding this season tallying 19.7 and 12.3, respectively, per contest. Williams came into last week averaging 7.5 points, 5.4 rebounds and 3.0 blocks per game. On the week, he notched 20.5 points, 9.0 rebounds and five blocked shots per game, hitting 15-of-17 field goals (.882) and 11-of-13 free throws (.846). In conference play, Williams is second in field goal percentage (.676), and averages of 15.3 points and 7.8 rebounds per game.
