New Mexico Leads 2005 Mountain West Conference Men's Golf Championship Heading Into Final Round

Individually, New Mexico junior Spencer Levin continues to lead the field.

Day 2 Results

BEND, Ore. - The 15th-ranked New Mexico Lobos remain on top of the leader board at the 2005 Mountain West Conference Men's Golf Championship, but has 13th-ranked BYU close behind after the second day of action at Sunriver Resort in Sunriver, Ore. The two-time defending champion Lobos fired a three-under 285 today and have a 36-hole total of six-under 570. BYU trailed New Mexico by seven shots after the first round, but closed the gap to four strokes after posting the day's lowest round of six-under 282. The Cougars enter the final 18 holes with a team score of two-under 574. UNLV climbed to third place with a one-under 287 today, and hold a two-day total of five-over 581. San Diego State dropped one position to fourth place after shooting a five-over 293 in the second round and is four strokes behind the Rebels with a nine-over 585. Colorado State remains in fifth place with a 13-over 589, follow by Utah in sixth (596), Wyoming seventh (611) and Air Force eighth (614).

 

 

Individually, New Mexico junior Spencer Levin continues to lead the field, but has BYU sophomore Nick Becker on his heels. Levin followed up his round one 69 with a two-under 70 for a two-day total of five-under 139 on the 7,568-yard, par 72, Crosswater Course. One stroke behind Levin is Becker, who carded a 69 today and has a 36-hole total of four-under 140. New Mexico sophomore Charlie Beljan made the largest jump from day one in the standings, moving from a tie for 16th yesterday to a tie for third after the second round. Beljan posted a two-over 74 on the first 18 holes, and had a three-under 69 today for a 36-hole score of one-under 143. Ron Harvey, Jr., of BYU (71-72), Nate Pettitt of Colorado State (71-72) and Josh Warthen of San Diego State (71-72) are all tied with Beljan for third with scores of 143.

After finishing tied for 16th yesterday with a two-over 74, defending MWC Individual Champion Ryan Moore moved into the top 10 after posting a two-under 70 today. Moore is currently tied for seventh with an even score of 144 through the first two rounds.
