UNLV Leads Field After First Round Of 2005

BEND, Ore. - Defending MWC Champion UNLV leads the six team field after the first day of action at the 2005 Mountain West Conference Women's Golf Championship at Sunriver Resort in Sunriver, Ore. The Rebels carded a team total of 295 (+11) for round one and hold a five shot advantage over New Mexico, who currently sits second at 300 (+16). Colorado State is third with a team score of 302 (+18), followed by BYU in fourth (304), San Diego State fifth (316) and Wyoming sixth (332).

Individually, UNLV's Elena Kurokawa of UNLV stands alone in first place with her two-under 69 on the 6,312 yard, par 71, Meadows Course. BYU's Rachel Newren sits one stroke behind the leader with a one-under 70, followed by New Mexico teammates Christine Fernandez and Christina Spence, who are tied for third with identical scores of one-over 72.

The second round will begin at 9 a.m. (PT) Friday morning, with the final 18 holes beginning Saturday at 9 a.m. Live scoring of the 2005 MWC Women's Golf Championship is available at at www.TheMWC.com and Golfstat.com.
