MWC Announces Women's Soccer Championship Pairings

Utah takes MWC title and No. 1 seed in championship

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. - Utah claimed its second outright regular-season Mountain West Conference women's soccer title with a 1-0 win over UNLV on Oct. 22. The victory over the Rebels also earned the Utes (13-5-1 overall, 6-0-1 MWC) the No. 1 seed in this week's MWC Women's Soccer Championship in Las Vegas, Nev. Utah closed out the season tying BYU 1-1 in double overtime on Saturday.

UNLV and BYU tied for second-place in the conference with 5-2-0 and 4-1-2 records, respectively. The Rebels (10-6-3 overall) will get the second seed after earning the tie break advantage by garnering the most points in conference play (3 points for a win, 1 point for a tie, 0 points for a loss). BYU (15-1-3 overall) claimed the third seed, while Wyoming (8-6-3, 4-3-0) earned the fourth seed. New Mexico (6-6-4, 3-3-1) takes the fifth seed, San Diego State (10-8-2, 2-3-2) will get the sixth seed, TCU (6-10-0, 1-6-0) takes the seventh seed, and the eighth seed will go to Air Force (4-15-1, 0-7-0).

The conference tournament will take place on Nov. 2-5 at Peter Johann Memorial Field on the campus of UNLV in Las Vegas, Nev. The opening match will see No. 4 Wyoming vs. No. 5 New Mexico at 11:30 a.m. on Wednesday, Nov. 2. Other Wednesday matches include No. 1 seed Utah vs. No. 8 seed Air Force at 2 p.m., No. 3 seed BYU vs. No. 6 seed San Diego State at 4:30 p.m. and No. 2 seed UNLV vs. No. 7 seed TCU at 7 p.m. The semifinal matches are set for 4:30 p.m. and 7 p.m. on Thursday, Nov. 4. The Mountain West Conference Women's Soccer Championship match is slated for noon on Saturday, Nov. 5, with the winner receiving an automatic bid into the 2005 NCAA Women's College Cup.
