MWC Weekly Tennis Awards BYU's Olga Boulytcheva and Utah's Zach Ganger net honors
Feb. 8, 2006 COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. - Utah's Zach Ganger and BYU's Olga Boulytcheva have been named the Mountain West Conference Men's and Women's Tennis Players of the Week, respectively. A sophomore from Jacksonville, Fla., Ganger posted a 2-0 mark in singles play and a 1-1 record in doubles competition last week, while helping the Utes split a pair of matches vs. nationally ranked teams. At the No. 2 singles spot, Ganger defeated No. 92 Niklas Persson of 75th-ranked Denver, 7-5, 7-6. Ganger teamed with Nick Coutts in a doubles-point loss to Denver, but the Utes still posted a 4-3 win over the Pioneers. Ganger defeated No. 60 Eric Molnar of 53rd-ranked Colorado at No. 1 singles, 6-1, 7-6, and teamed with Coutts for a doubles victory vs. the Buffaloes. A senior from Moscow, Russia, Boulytcheva posted a 2-1 mark in singles play and a 2-1 record in doubles competition vs. three ranked teams last week at the USTA-ITA National Indoor Championships. At No. 1 singles, Boulytcheva lost her first singles match of the year to No. 28 Jenna Long of 10th-ranked North Carolina, 2-6, 3-6, but bounced back for wins vs. Amanda Fish of No. 7 Vanderbilt (6-3, 6-4) and No. 17 Zuzana Zemenova of 8th-ranked Baylor (5-7, 6-4, 1-0 [10-5]). In doubles play, Boulytcheva teamed with Sofia Holden to win two-of-three doubles points at the No. 3 spot, defeating No. 7 Vanderbilt and No. 8 Baylor, while falling to No. 10 North Carolina. Overall, No. 33 Boulytcheva is 7-1 at No. 1 singles this season.
